PETER C. NEWMAN - BACKGROUNDER

Peter C. Newman is one of Canada’s foremost national commentators on politics and business. An icon of Canadian popular history, he is the author of 20 books that have sold 2 million copies to date. His books range from an in-depth look at the Canadian Establishment and how it has gained its power to the history of the Hudson’s Bay Company and its impact on Canada as a nation.

He is currently a senior contributing editor to MacLean's Magazine. and a contributor to The National Post. He is the former Editor-in-Chief of both MacLean's and The Toronto Star. Under Mr. Newman’s stewardship MacLean's went from a monthly to weekly newsmagazine.

Peter C. Newman is the recipient of numerous journalistic awards including the Lifetime Achievement Award of The Canadian Journalism Foundation. He was elected to The Canadian News Hall of Fame in 1992 and is a Companion in the Order of Canada. Mr. Newman is currently sharing his expertise with our nation’s future journalists as a Visiting Professor at the Sing Tao Graduate School of Journalism, University of British Columbia.
