IMAGE DOWNLOADS -- MACINTOSH For later browsers, simply click on a high resolution image and drag it to your desktop or to a desired folder. Older browsers on Macintosh Platforms typically do not allow a simple means of capturing JPEG images. Newer versions of browsers for the Macintosh provide this option. However, all browsers store the images that viewers see on screen in a folder on the hard drive. Both Navigator and Internet Explorer have their own "cached" images folder, contained within the Preferences folder of the System folder. The purposes of the cached folder is to speed up browsing--the browser compares the HTML code of the page that you wish to link to with that of the cached HTML page on your hard drive. If there is no difference, then the page is loaded from your machine, stored images and all. Unfortunately for those who might wish easy identification of the cached images, they are indexed in a manner making virtually impossible to tell which images correspond to which HTML pages you may have recently browsed. If you have an older version, by clearing disk cache now, an option available on your browser, any images on pages you subsequently visit can easily be identified by file size--or at worst by simple process of elimination. However, this will also mean that sites you normally frequent may take longer to load the first time you re-visit, as cached pages and images usually there have to be reloaded. For small images that fit entirely on screen, a screen capture can be used (Apple + Shift + 3), which places the image on the clipboard. However, the linked images provided here are too large to enable this. Therefore, if you understand and appreciate the above, you may wish to clear disk cache now so that when you link to the full-size JPEG image, you can then go directly to the Cached Images folder for your browser, and copy the JPEG file where desired. You may need to exit your browser for the newly-downloaded image to appear in the Cached images folder.
